Got a Swarm?

🐝 Don’t panic β€” honey bee swarms are a natural part of beekeeping!

Every spring and summer, healthy honey bee colonies may split and form a swarm. Thousands of bees will gather around their queen on a tree branch, fence, or other object while they search for a new home. Although they can look intimidating, honey bee swarms are generally much less defensive than bees protecting an established hive.

We Don’t Offer Swarm Removal

Thank you for thinking of The Great Canadian Honey Co. Unfortunately, due to our busy beekeeping schedule, we are not able to respond to swarm removal requests.

Need a Swarm Removed?

We highly recommend Ontario Bee Rescue, a volunteer network of experienced beekeepers across Ontario dedicated to the humane rescue and relocation of honey bee swarms.

Before You Request a Rescue

  • πŸ“Έ If possible, take a clear photo of the bees.

  • πŸ“ Note the exact location and whether they are on a tree, fence, building, or inside a structure.

  • 🏑 If the bees have moved inside a wall, chimney, or other structure, removal may require an extraction service, which may have a cost.

  • 🐝 If they are hanging in a cluster on a branch or shrub, they are often ideal candidates for relocation by a beekeeper.

Thank you for helping protect Ontario’s honey bees by choosing humane swarm rescue whenever possible!
